Panama City Beach was created in 1953 and the City of Panama City Beach, as it currently exists, became a single chartered government in 1969 as a result of the merging of four separate cities: West Panama City Beach, Edgewater, Long Beach, and Panama City Beach.
 
Home to the Shipwreck Island Water Park, Gulf World Marine Park, Zoo World, St. Andrews State Park, and Camp Helen State Park, Panama City Beach offers days of fun for all ages and incredible natural beauty.
 
A small municipality with a resident population around 5,000; the Panama City Beach area receives close to five million visitors each year. Tourism is the leading industry as evidenced by the many popular nightclub, amusement attractions, recreational activities, restaurants and lodging establishments in the area. Recently the area beaches underwent a $20 million "Beach Beautification" project to widen the 27 miles of spectacular shoreline.
 
Vacation fun comes in all shapes and sizes along Panama City Beach. Amusement Parks, animal and marine life attractions, arcades, and miniature gold offer old-fashioned family entertainment. Try your hand at mini golf in a safari jungle, splash down a slippery slide at a water park, explore St. Andrews State Park, or take to the skies in a seaplane Boating, fishing, and wreck diving also satisfy your adventurous side, along with getaway trips to the secluded paradise of Shell Island.
